Torrance Ranked as the #9 Midsize City to Raise Children.
MyLife.com, a subscription-based social media site, recently conducted an analysis with the goal of uncovering the best midsize cities in the US to raise children in taking into account several important factors many of which are listed below. The City of Torrance – nestled just south of Los Angeles – came in at No. 9 on the list, confirming what we, South Bay locals and residents of Torrance, already know: our city is a full-service community that ranks among the best in the country in terms of safety and education, among other things.
Torrance real estate is a popular choice among both young families and seniors and further adds the “balanced city” ideal that our city is known for.
The analysis included five sets of data:
- Crimae rate
- Public school ranking
- Public parks per capita
- Average family salary
- Cost of living
This analysis is based on data gathered from 189 mid sized cities. It’s interesting to see the importance and emphasis placed on public school rankings and safety as it relates to public recreation. In other words, Cities are ranked on the caliber of their education and the peace of mind they can offer families in terms of children playing safely outside and in parks. Not surprisingly, Torrance ranked between thirteenth and twenty-fifth in every category, with the only exception being cost of living. This makes sense given Torrance’s emphasis for quality recreation both by its local government and its local businesses. The City’s Parks and Recreation department boasts staff members at each of its major parks for two months out of the summer and a week in the winter. Additionally, AYSO, the American Youth Soccer Organization, was founded in Torrance, and to this day has a strong presence in the community.
